SEATTLE-Jack LeClercq, a senior captain of the O’Dea Swim & Dive team embodies the rare athlete who thrives both in the pool and on the board. This past season he contributed to the Fighting Irish’s Metro Championship win, stepping up with an unexpected district qualifying lead off in the 400 free relay. Yet for Leclercq O’Dea athletics represents far more than just trophies.
He chose O’Dea specifically for his uncommon flexibility in athletics.
“I do both swim and dive, which is very uncommon," Jack explains. "Usually, you just stick to one or the other."
This allowed him to pursue dual passions while embracing the school’s emphasis on well-rounded growth in academics, faith, and brotherhood.

Beyond the competition, the program forged essential life skills. Discipline and accountability came from the captain’s role and the daily grind. And through this he has learned the importance of setting an example for younger athletes.
“Being a senior this year… the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen all looking up to me,” LeClercq reflects. “Just showing up and letting them see me show up really matters.”
Leadership is developed by modeling what motivates teammates, confidence grew through physical transformation, and resilience carried LeClercq through 5:45 a.m. practices despite exhaustion and a demanding schedule of schoolwork, campus ministry, and college prep.
LeClercq’s experience shaped a young man ready for life beyond high school. In O’Dea’s Fighting Irish tradition, athletics builds endurance, character, and lasting bonds preparing students not just to compete but to lead with purpose.
