The O’Dea Fighting Irish take down the Roosevelt Roughriders in a must-see first matchup

SEATTLE -- O'Dea took down Roosevelt 56-28 on Friday night led by J’Shaun Wilson’s 9 carry, 264-yard, 3 touchdown performance.

O’Dea, defending their 2x State Title, started a bit slow on defense but picked it up in the second half to come out with a 28-point victory.

A main reason for the slow start was that the corners didn’t expect the spread offense as they prepared for a Wing T. Junior fullback Wilson West had this to say about the start: “The corners weren’t practicing with live reps.”

After Roosevelt led off the game with a punt, senior Niño Moksivong took the punt all the way for a leadoff touchdown.

Both offenses came out firing, with the score being 28-14 O’Dea after the first quarter. There was only one score in the second quarter by the Irish, so the game was 35-14 at the half.

Wilson’s performance was heavily aided by the offensive line. After being asked about how the offense was so successful, junior Jaxon Foy had this to say about the run game: “The blocking was dominant, which helped the run game have success.”

Roosevelt is looking to bounce back on Thursday with a much easier game at Chief Sealth. As for O’Dea, their next game is on Friday against Ballard at West Seattle Stadium.
