SEATTLE- Jomie Schuchart, a senior at O’Dea High School, stepped onto the podium after winning his first Metro title. After a few bumps in the road, including missing half of the season due to transfer rules, it was a huge accomplishment. It wasn’t easy; however, to him, it was all worth it.

O’Dea wasn’t what Schuchart had in mind at the end of his junior year. However, looking back on his decision to transfer, what once seemed nerve-racking or scary turned into something he would never regret.

“I was looking for a more well-rounded experience, where I could maximize my potential in the classroom, on the mat, and on the field,” Schuchart said.

In the short amount of time Schuchart has been part of the O’Dea community, he has accomplished a lot. Schuchart serves as the wrestling team’s honorary captain, acting as a leader and role model for the team.

Schuchart attributes much of his success this year to what the O’Dea program has to offer.

“At O’Dea, you are pushed to maximize your potential. When you’re a part of a larger team of 30 guys and get to see everyone pushing each other constantly, it’s a way different culture and feel than I have ever been a part of” Schuchart said.

Since transferring, Schuchart has gained more than just an academic and physical challenge. He has gained a community of brothers and found a place where he feels he was meant to be.
