O’Dea Runs Past Roosevelt 56-28

SEATTLE -- The O’Dea Fighting Irish put on a dominant performance Friday night, defeating the Roosevelt Roughriders 56-28.

O’Dea started the game hot with an opening punt return for a touchdown by Nino Moksivong.

However, Roosevelt did not go away quickly. O’Dea spent the week preparing for Roosevelt’s Wing-T offense, but the Roughriders came out in a spread, pass-first offense, catching the Irish off guard. Roosevelt took advantage early, making the score 21-14 by the end of the first quarter.

“It was very confusing,” said junior defensive lineman Ali Mohamed. “But we had to adjust.”

Senior defensive back Freddy Parks also added. “It very unexpected, but once we switched to nickel, we started to figure it out,” Parks said.

After adjusting, O’Dea’s defense started to take control. Brady Clisham came up with a huge third-down sack that forced a turnover. The Irish turned that opportunity into points when Kayden Tatum made a toe-tap catch for a touchdown.

The Irish offense continued to be successful on the ground, scoring five rushing touchdowns on the night. J'Shaun Wilson finished with nine carries for 264 yards and three touchdowns, while Max Speller added two rushing touchdowns of his own.

After overcoming Roosevelt’s early offensive success, O’Dea pulled away and finished the night with a 56-28 victory.

The Fighting Irish will look to keep the momentum going next Friday when they take on the Ballard Beavers at West Seattle Stadium.
