SEATTLE- As soon as Prentice Sanders stepped onto O’Dea’s campus, he knew it was going to be a great fit. Now, he is a senior swim team captain and just set a school record for the 200m Free Relay.

“When I was a freshman, I didn’t know anybody, so I knew sports were always a good way to connect with others,” said Sanders.

Joining the swim team turned out to be one of the best decisions he made, and he has improved every year since.

He always has a determined mindset and continuously builds his team up even in hard times. He says the team was “in the dumps and feeling down after stuff wasn’t going their way at the time”, but Sanders didn’t let that get to him; he made sure that they were focused on finishing the meet by being encouraging.

Sanders has been a true student-athlete during his time at O’Dea, by excelling both in the classroom and in the pool. He even wrote and published a book during his sophomore year.

Being a student-athlete is hard, but he says, “It has definitely helped me understand the balance between academics and athletics.”

Throughout the last 4 years, Sanders has grown as a person, a leader, an athlete, and a brother. He has left his mark on O’Dea and will continue to do great things in the future.
