SEATTLE- Junior captain Justus De Jesus has emerged as an important leader for the wrestling program at O’Dea, one of the state’s most well-known high school athletic programs. Earning a captain role as a junior comes with added pressure and responsibility, but De Jesus has handled the moment with maturity and focus beyond his years.

Inside the wrestling room, coaches and teammates point to his steady work ethic and consistent approach as key reasons he was trusted with leadership so early. He sets the tone in practice and competition by holding himself to the same high expectations the program is known for.

For De Jesus, the biggest impact of wrestling goes far beyond wins and losses.

“It’s taught me discipline, time management, and accountability. Being in a high-standard program has pushed me to grow both in the classroom and as a person.”

That growth has translated directly into how he leads. Stepping into the captain role required him to be more vocal and dependable every day.

“Being named a junior captain made me mature quickly. I’ve learned to lead by example and be someone my teammates can count on every day.”

At O’Dea, De Jesus continues to prove leadership is earned daily.
