Whenever I walk by Ms. Scott's mentor group I am overfilled with a sense of genuine joy and brotherhood. Because of this, I decided to get an interview with their mentor group captain, Zach Schulyer '25. Zach is a driven student athlete who's decided to take a huge role as Ms. Scotts Mentor Group Captain while balancing all his schoolwork and athletics.

Zach has been a hard-working Student the past three years and has played several sports at O'Dea including football, tennis, golf and wrestling. He has been a difference maker in each sport with his good values and his hard work. With that being said, he stepped up in the brotherhood and took a huge leadership role as a mentor group captain for Waterford house this year. "I wanted to help lead Ms. Scott's Mentor Group and I felt like I could help the younger students," Zach said.

Zach enjoys being a mentor group captain because "it is fun to plan activities and have students participate, interact, and get to know each other better." I asked Zach in our interview how he was feeling about our mentor group this year and he responded, "I am feeling like our mentor group is connected this year. I feel like there is less division between groups and I have been able to get everyone involved with most activities."

Being a mentor group captain comes with a lot of responsibility. He has to make sure everyone feels welcome, and everyone has a place in our mentor group. I have asked Zach how he is able to balance all of these activities: "I make sure that I stay on top of my schoolwork and try to get it done in school if possible," he said. "I make sure that I prioritize school over sports, so if I know that I need help in a certain area I will get help for it." Zach has been an exceptional leader in our mentor group and house so far this year.

Zach is motivated to teach some of his great values not only the school, but his community. "The thought of helping people is mostly what motivates me to be a mentor group captain," Zach said. "I also love being able to get people from different groups to interact." These values will only benefit him in his bright future. Lastly, his goals for the future are to become a lawyer and work to help people who need it the most. Make sure to listen for Zach's name in the next few years because he is a hard-working student athlete, and everyone is curious to see where he will end up in his bright future that will bring change to the world.
