SEATTLE – After O’Dea golf ended their regular season with a record of 6-4-1, they traveled to West Seattle Golf Course to compete in the Metro Championships. O’Dea brought home 5th place with a team score of 320, which was much better than last year’s 8th-place outing, only losing to Roosevelt (296), Seattle Academy (307), Seattle Prep (311), and Bishop Blanchet (313), earning the team a ticket to districts.
O’Dea had five participants competing as a team, including seniors Bennett Smoltz, John Pokorny, Nathan Booth, Greyson Deiner, and sophomore Jackson Rosquita. They also had senior Christian Skally competing as an individual (not scoring for the team). Through 18 holes (par 72), Pokorny (+6) and Smoltz (+7) led the pack for the Irish, followed by Rosquita (+9), Booth (+10), and Deiner (+21). Skally (+6) was also able to make the cut to qualify for districts as an individual, which means every O’Dea golf member competing in the Metro Championships was able to move on.

Looking forward, the Fighting Irish hope to get all members to the State Championships, which will take place in May. Senior Pokorny had some thoughts on the team’s possibilities of making state.
“Yeah, I think we can for sure make it as a team, and if not, I think we can send a good number of guys.”
The Irish are staying positive and keeping morale high through the postseason. They are confident that their hard work throughout the season will pay off and give them a good outing against some tough competition.
Next up for the Irish on Monday, October 27th, are the District Championships at Druids Glen Golf Course, where all competing members of the team will do their best to earn a spot in the State Championships.
