SEATTLE-- From dealing with injuries to building friendships with teammates, O'Dea football has shaped who Keelan Thomas is today. It has also taught him lessons he will carry long after his time at O’Dea comes to an end.

Throughout his football career, Thomas has experienced both the highs and lows of the game. Injuries have tested him mentally; one thing I took away from our interview is how he takes a positive approach whenever something does not go his way.

“Football has changed me in many ways,” Thomas said. “Injuries are one of those things that took a toll on my mental health but also made me stronger when I came back.”

From Little League to high school, he has learned how to overcome challenges and appreciate the opportunity to return to the field. At the same time, football has brought him joy through making plays with his friends and meeting people he might never have known otherwise.

As a senior captain, Thomas has also learned that being a leader means setting an example and being a role model for the underclassmen. He understands that responsibility starts with the little things, such as showing up on time for workouts and film sessions.

Thomas explained how he also takes pride in helping his teammates whenever they need it, believing that supporting others matters even when it requires putting their needs before his own.

One of the biggest things Thomas will take away from football is the brotherhood he has built with his teammates. The relationships he has made have become just as important as the lessons he has learned on the field.

“I will always carry the brotherhood that football has given me after O’Dea,” Thomas said.

He described his teammates as some of the funniest, most loyal, and best people he has met.

As Thomas finishes his senior season, the impact of football will extend beyond his high school career. The mental toughness he developed, the responsibility he learned as a captain, and the friendships he built will remain with him wherever life takes him next.
