There is no other month like February at O'Dea. This month has a lot of meaning for people around the world. At O'Dea, we celebrate Black History Month differently than other schools. There are activities and certain things we do here during this time period.

Here at O'Dea, we have a Black Student Union club (BSUE). BSUE is ran by Dean Magee. The club meets on A club days and working on to meet on B club days as well. The club meets to talk about certain topics and to come up with ideas for events in & outside of school.

Recently, the club made posters for decorations to put around the school for Black History month. The posters consisted of a role model in black history and facts about that specific person. The posters were put on every floor around the school for people to look and read about important African-Americans throughout history. The main goal was for people to learn something new about someone or even learn about someone they've never heard of.

Another thing the club does is speak in morning announcements. After prayer and the pledge of allegiance is finished, a member of the club speaks about a fact of an important African-American. The great thing about this is the member can research and select a person beforehand. Dean Magee selects a new member everyday for all 29 days of the month.
