PUYALLUP, Wash. – The O’Dea Fighting Irish season didn’t start the way they envisioned as they fell to 4A Graham-Kapowsin 40-38 on Friday night.
O’Dea showed resilience right away after losing two key starters, sophomore OT Kyler Harden and senior QB Hutton Leverett on the team’s opening drive. Freshman QB Allias Moimoi replaced Leverett and had a solid first high school game throwing for 120 yards and a TD.
Going into the 4th quarter, O’Dea trailed 34-17 before roaring back with three 4th quarter touchdowns to take the lead 38-34 with 2:02 left in the game. But then, Graham-Kapowsin, led by QB AJ Tuivaiave, marched down the field to score a TD and take the lead 40-38 with 0:35 left to go. O’Dea fumbled on their ensuing drive, sealing the game for GK 40-38.
The Irish will look to bounce back as they take on the Rainier Beach Vikings on September 11th, at 7pm at SWAC.
