SPANAWAY, Wash-To kick off the football season on September 5, 2025, the O’Dea Fighting Irish took on the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles at Art Crate Stadium. In a game of great teams,, Graham-Kapowsin upset the defending state champions 40-38, to drop the Irish to 0-1 in the season.

This was a rematch of last season, in which O’Dea took the win 35-28, and O’Dea then went on to win the 3A State Championship.

With a chip on Graham-Kapowsin's shoulder from last season and O'Dea’s state title, it was evident this game would be a close one.

Besides the loss on the scoreboard, the Irish suffered multiple injuries in the first week of the season.

With multiple starters out, young guys will have to step up and lead the Fighting Irish to prepare to play against Rainier Beach on Thursday, September 11.
