Strategic minds converge and knights move with precision in the vibrant world of the O'Dea's Chess Club, where intellect meets competition. The Chess Club not only requires mental prowess but also creates a community bonded by a shared passion for this timeless game of wit and strategy.

I interviewed junior Cormac Hummel who described chess as a battlefield for the minds. Hummel, the captain of the chess club, prepares his team for battle every week as they take on opponents from different schools.

Hummel takes pride in being captain of the chess club as it was he and another O'Dea student who re-started it all.

Hummel says, "I wanted to create a chess club because I have seen a lot of my classmates playing chess before and I thought that it would be a good addition to the club rotation at O'Dea because it would get a lot of members."

Hummel would then find out that the chess club was another brilliant idea to bring the O'Dea community closer together, as it was Hummel's favorite part along with competing against each other.

Hummel is excited to get the year started off with a chess club meeting coming up very soon on C club days. So if you are interested in joining a chess club and being a part of something amazing, don't be afraid to reach out to Junior Cormac Hummel, captain of the club.
