SPANAWAY, Wash — On September 5th, the No. 2 O’Dea Fighting Irish opened their season against No. 3 Graham-Kapowsin. The Irish showed fight, rallying back from a 15-point deficit before the loss.
The Irish also had to battle through injuries. Sophomore offensive lineman Kyler Harden and senior quarterback Hutton Leverett both went down, forcing backups to step up in their place.
Even in the loss, O’Dea’s offense had plenty of players making an impact. Freshman quarterback Allias MoiMoi scored both a rushing and passing touchdown in his first varsity game. Junior fullback Max Spiller, senior running back Uriah Stringfield, senior wide receiver Lio Banchero, and senior Owen Brustkern all added touchdowns of their own. Banchero’s score came on a 75-yard play, one of the biggest highlights of the night.

In total, six different players found the end zone for O’Dea. The Irish may have taken the loss, but their fight and effort were clear in a tough road game against a strong Graham-Kapowsin team.
O’Dea (0-1) will look to bounce back in their next matchup against Rainier Beach.
