SEATTLE--- On the O’Dea Lacrosse field, there is one star that shines brightest in the toughest moments. His name, is Owen Brustkern, and he is the true embodiment of an advantageous leader on and off the pitch and is also established as the starting defensive midfielder for the Fighting Irish. Unfortunately, Brustkern recently went down with an injury that will have a big impact on his season but as Brustkern says, “The injury won’t stop me from making a difference on my team”, which is a show of empowering charisma and great principles.

Beyond his skills, Brustkern stands out for his leadership. As an upperclassman, he helps guide younger players and sets an example through his work ethic. He understands that success in lacrosse comes from more than individual performance; it comes from communication and commitment to the team. His attitude helps build a stronger team culture where everyone is expected to contribute to the winning effort.
But it’s not just Brustkern, teammates describe Brustkern as a steady and reliable presence who helps keep the team grounded, especially during intense or difficult moments in games. They point out that he brings a calm, focused attitude that helps others stay composed when pressure starts to build. Instead of getting frustrated or distracted, he stays engaged and encourages those around him to keep playing to their important roles. He is also known for communicating on the field, whether it’s calling out plays, supporting defensive positioning, or simply keeping energy up during long stretches during the game where the defense doesn’t get a break. Off the field, his teammates appreciate that he is approachable and supportive, someone who is willing to help younger players adjust to the pace and expectations of high school lacrosse. This combination of effort and leadership has made him someone the team looks to for stability and confidence.
As the season continues without him on the field due to injury, Brustkern’s role in the O’Dea lacrosse program has shifted, but his influence has not faded. Even though he can’t contribute through game action anymore, he remains present as a leader on the sidelines ;supporting his teammates, sharing his knowledge, and encouraging the team through every moment of the season. His impact is now measured less by plays made and more by the standard he helped set earlier in the year and the attitude he continues to bring each day. For O’Dea lacrosse, Brustkern’s presence is still felt as a reminder of resilience, leadership, and commitment to the team beyond personal setbacks.
