SEATTLE-Senior center Cyrus Batingan snaps for the final time in his high school career at West Seattle stadium on Friday October 24th with winning metros for the 3rd time in a row after the win over the West Seattle Wildcats 56-14.
The Odea Fighting Irish were looking to finish the regular season on a good one with one more game of the season. Coming into the game West Seattle was ranked number 2 in 3A while the Irish were ranked number 6 in 3A. With also the Irish having some of their key players out due to injury such as Senior Captain Lineman Kingston Fotualii, Senior Safety Owen Brustkern and Junior offensive tackle Gabe Populus.
Juniors’ offensive tackles Owen McNutt and Damian Canfield steps in to help fill the offensive line with Senior Guard Griffen Matzen moving the center since Cyrus is out for the season. This will be the just the second game of Canfields year due to him quitting sophomore year. Even with the number of injuries and new faces starting, the Irish still got the win with scoring over 50 points for the first time this season. During the 4th game of the season against the eastside catholic crusaders, Cyrus Suffered a season ending injury which concluded his high school and possible football career. Due to it being senior night Cyrus was able to snap one last time to conclude his high school career. After that snap Cyrus said. “it felt awesome, I got to play with my brothers for one more snap.” He was also able to snap to Senior Captain quarterback Hutton Leverett one more time with him saying “it was very special since i had one more snap with Hutton who I’ve been playing wit since freshman year”.
`The Irish after winning became Metro League Champs for the 3rd consecutive year. After the win they now have a Bye week to rest before the first round of playoffs. With also senior offensive tackle Kingston and Sophomore Offensive tackle Kyler Harden both coming back from injury that happened in the first two games of the season. Now the question is even with the amount of injuries, can they win state back-to-back years or will it hold them back and fall apart sooner than expected.
