SEATTLE -The O’Dea High School boys' varsity golf team showcased determination and skill, finishing fifth at the 2025 Metro League Boys Golf Championship held Monday, October 20, 2025, at West Seattle Golf Course. With a team score of 320, the Fighting Irish punched their ticket to the district tournament on Monday, October 27, joining the top eight teams in a competitive field of 12.
The par-72, 6,623-yard course challenged players with its windy conditions and tricky greens, especially on the back nine’s elevated holes. O’Dea’s balanced lineup proved decisive, edging out Lakeside (321) and Ballard (324) in a tight race. Roosevelt claimed the title with a stellar 296, followed by Seattle Academy at 307, Seattle Prep at 311, and Bishop Blanchet at 313.
Senior John Pokorny coming in with a 78 (+6), securing 16th place with steady drives, and helping the team earn a 22nd-place tie and showcasing clutch putting. Senior Ben Smoltz followed with a 79 (+7) Senior Nathan Booth added an 82 (+10) for 38th, while sophomore Jackson Rosquita contributed an 81 (+9) for 30th. Senior Grayson Deiner rounded out the scoring five with a 91 (+19) in 67th. The team’s depth and composure under pressure stood out in the 8 a.m. shotgun start under overcast skies.
"Team played really well, with getting a strong metro finish. It really helped that we knew the course, and all had confidence in our game going in. I also think the early tee times, and faster rounds help others and I focus on our games," said Pokorny.
After achieving the opportunity to have six guys go to districts at Druids Glen Golf Course at 10am against all of the other qualifying teams to get their ticket into state.
