SEATTLE- The O’Dea Fighting Irish went on the road to face the Rainier Beach Vikings and sophomore running back J’shaun Wilson stepped up by rushing for over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns on Thursday, September 11 at SWAC stadium in a 31-16 win for the Irish.
The Irish were looking to bounce back after their tough loss against Graham-Kapowsin the week before. Coming into the game freshman Alias Moimoi was still the QB1 with senior captain Hutton Leverett out due to a shoulder injury. Junior Jeremiah Nonu and sophomore Kyler Harden were also unavailable as they dealt with injuries.
Juniors offensive tackle Gabe Populus and guard Amar'E Foalima-Calderon stepped in to help fill the offensive line. During the 2nd quarter senior captain offensive tackle Kingston Fotualii went down with a knee injury. Junior tackle Lamar Darden stepped in to finish the rest of the game with still a half to play. Even with the amount of injures the Irish got the convincing win.
On Friday, September 19 at 7pm they will be at West Seattle Stadium but this time being the away team where they will be facing The Seattle Prep Panthers. But the question is with the number of injuries plaguing the team will they be able to carry the energy into the weeks ahead.
