Seattle-4/25/24 Wyatt Ashley, a senior here at O’Dea, is in the middle of his 12th consecutive season playing frisbee. As many may know there is no Irish Ultimate Frisbee team, so much like others who play sports that O’Dea doesn’t offer, he plays for his local public schools’ team. In Ashleys' case his public school is Lincoln high school in Wallingford.
Most people don’t know Lincoln is home to a world class frisbee team, they have been regulars at the national high school tournament for the last hand full of years.
“I was initially bummed that O’Dea didn’t have a team but they have a great program at Lincoln and made me a part of the team”
He already had more experience than many of his piers going into his freshman year and managed to find a spot playing cutter and got success. His freshman year the season was abbreviated due to covid. However, the next two years they went to the national tournament and placed within the top 5 in the nation both years.
Wyatt is looking forward to going back for another shot at the national title this year. After words he will continue his education while playing frisbee on the d1 level for the University of Portland. He tells me that his family and more importantly his siblings are the reason for his success in the sport. He is following in the footsteps of both is sibling playing frisbee and is ecstatic to take his game to the next level.
